My Little One

I am the proud mom of an almost-8-month-old. Or, as David would say, "he is 7 months". I don't know why I always round up with his age. Anyway, he is truly a delight. As the school year has just ended and the summer break is beginning I am relishing on the fact that I now get to spend all day with him for the next 10-weeks.

I was thinking the other day about how much he has changed since my maternity leave ended back in February. He's talking --mostly through squeals, he can also say "da-da" (I'm still working on "ma-ma"). He's crawling and pulling up to the standing position. Today, he stood up while hanging onto the leg of his crib with one hand --dare devil! He is also truly developing a sense of humor. Yesterday, David was feeding him, David started laughing and then Jadon joined in the laughter just because David was doing it. It was so cute. Last but not least, he is getting into EVERYTHING!! I have to watch him constantly. This morning while playing in his room, he crawled over to his nightstand that has a bookshelf at the bottom. He proceeded to pull out nearly every single book. After he was done with that, he moved over to the bottom shelf of his changing table and pulled out four blankets. Needless to say, he keeps me busy.

Last night I was thinking about how the Lord has truly changed my heart since giving birth to Jadon. I am so much more emotional and vulnerable with him and everything else --be it a sentimental movie, greeting card, or commercial. Last night I watched the movie, "The Pursuit of Happyness" with Will Smith. I had watched it before Jadon was born and thought it was a good movie. But when I watched it last night, the emotion of the character's struggle to create a better life for himself and his son really struck me. As a parent, I could truly identify with that desire and it brought tears to my eyes. I didn't realize how big my heart could get --the crazy thing is, it continues to grow everyday.
Here's a few pictures of our munchin:

Jadon is truly a daddy's boy!

I absolutely LOVE this face!

Hall of Fame

Over the weekend one of my dearest friends was inducted into the Hall of Fame for collegiate sports at UC Davis. I was lucky enough to attend the ceremony to watch her accept the prestegious award. In addition to being at the ceremony, I got to catch up with some old track buddies! It was so nice to see them and reminisce about life as an undergrad, going to track practice everyday, the pain we felt at practice, and how that time was the best shape we'd ever been in, in our lives (at least that was the case for me...) Awww, the good ole days.

Nonetheless, Meelah, we are so proud of you. You worked so hard and truly deserve to be called a "Hall of Famer"!

Jadon stayed with Aunt Robbie (a.k.a. TT) for the evening and David and I got to go out and "celebrate" after the awards ceremony. This was the first time David and I had gone out to a bar since Jadon's birth. Let me tell you, soooo much has changed in Davis in the past few years. There are times when I feel like I have just graduated from college but this weekend was a very clear reminder that it's been a few years and I'm getting old.
For starters, I was tired and ready to go home by 11:30 p.m. --I remember the days when the night started at 11:00 p.m. Then I got repremanded (jokingly) by a friend who asked why I was drinking a Medori Sour. I replied that it was my "signature drink". She laughed at me and said, "You're not 20 anymore --you need a new, more mature, 'signature' drink". Last, I found myself scoffing at some of the girls who were passing by as we sat on the restaurant patio. They were wearing REALLY short mini-dresses --and were obviously on their way to the club next door to the restaurant. We found ourselves questioning if we ever wore such skimpy clothing as undergrads.

Needless to say, David and I had a great time out but the whole latter part of the evening had me thinking about my youth and the fact that I am entering a whole new decade in less than 6 months...
Here are some pictures from the event:

New Territory

After much thought and wavering back and forth, I have decided to enter the bogsphere. I can't believe it. This blog will hopefully help document our constantly growing weed which is our son --Jadon David.

It will also help keep our friends and family up-to-date on our life here in Oakland. I will try my best to update this blog frequently --but I make not guarantees =). I sincerely hope this blog doesn't find itself on my list of "things I should do but never do"...I already have about 5 to 6 items on that list (i.e. go to the gym, do daily devotions, etc.) and there's no more room left to add anything...

I hope you enjoy!
