At the end of June we went to Kauai to celebrate the 30th birthdays of David, Jon (David’s twin bro.) and Jon’s wife Andrea. This was the first (but I hope not the last) of great family vacations. Jon and Andrea have an adorable 1 year old, Christopher –whom we LOVE to pieces. So Jadon got to spend a whole week with his big cousin! These two are so cute together. It is sad that they can’t spend more time together since they live 3 hours apart but I hope they become the best of friends as they grow.
So, to celebrate this great milestone of turning 30 years old, we took in the sites and sounds of Kauai. We ate, hiked, swam, relaxed, and ate some more! This was our first BIG vacation as a family of three. And there are some definite differences now that we have a baby. Here’s a summary of my observations…
When on vacation with a baby…
- Relaxation is not guaranteed
- You can no longer finish a 200-page book while sitting on the beach
- The baby's morning can start on California time (5:00 am Hawaii time) and want you to start your day on California time too –Sleeping in is overrated…
- The site of the ocean takes on a whole new, deeper meaning when seeing your son’s face light up as he watches huge waves crash upon the shore.
- You’ve never had so much fun wading in the kiddie pool
- You ponder the mystery of how sand got into the inner most folds of your child’s bum.
- Sand is just another healthy snack –at least Jadon thought so =)
We had so much fun with everyone and can’t wait to do it again. Here are some pictures.
The boys and their boys!
I love it!!! Operation Hawaii worked!
